Tractor trailer wreck shuts down Hwy 431

PHENIX CITY, AL - An accident on 431 in Phenix City has the road shut down Tuesday morning.

The collision happened around 6:10 a.m. when a car crashed into a tractor trailer, causing them both to lose control.

There were only minor injuries from the accident which happened right after the turn for 165.

Crash kills motorcycle driver entering Columbus

PHENIX CITY, AL - Officials say a man on a motorcycle was on the bridge on Highway 80 coming from Phenix City to Columbus when he swerved to avoid a stick in the road near the 2nd Ave. exit.

He lost control of the motorcycle, ran off the road and hit a tree.

Victim's family has charges lowered for Phenix City man

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - A man accused of killing his best friend had his charges reduced after a request from the friend's family.

Jerry Brooks was charged with vehicular homicide and had the charges reduced to criminal negligent homicide.

Russell County receives national funding for new fire truck

RUSSELL COUNTY, AL - Congressman Mike Rogers congratulated the men and women of the Mt. Olive Sunderland Volunteer Fire Department today for receiving a $126,825 grant from the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, funding Rogers said would help the Russell County fire department purchase a new firefighting vehicle.

COLUMBUS, GA - The Georgia Motorcycle Safety Program (GMSP), part of the Georgia Department of Driver Services offers professionally coached rider education courses in Columbus at the Department of Driver Services.

GMSP provides training, as well as promotes motorist awareness programs, and is focused on highway safety issues affecting Georgia motorcyclists.

Phenix City begins Summerville Road resurfacing project

PHENIX CITY, AL - Tuesday marked the beginning of the end for one of Phenix City’s most anticipated projects this year, as the city began resurfacing Summerville Road.

 

The section scheduled for maintenance is between 13th Street and the Lee County line and in the past several months, the city has replaced several waterlines in the area and vowed to complete the utility upgrades before beginning the resurfacing project.
