Access ramp closing on J.R. Allen Pkwy | News
(WTVM)- Changes may soon be on the way for a busy intersection in north Columbus at Bradley Park Drive and J.R. Allen Parkway.
News Leader 9's Curtis McCloud visited the scene Thursday afternoon.
An on ramp that provides access to J.R. Allen heading west bound is closing.
Deputy city manager David Arrington told us this afternoon that crews are already working to start this process.
If you are on Bradley Park Drive heading towards that intersection and you want to go to Phenix City, you will not be able to turn left anymore because that loop will go away.
You will now have to go down to a new turn lane and enter on to J.R. Allen by making a left hand turn.
It's all part of the DOT's plan to make getting onto the intersection safer.
"The interchange has not had a high accident rate in previous years but it would be at a fairly high speed that would add to its significance," said Arrington.
There was one fatality reported at this intersection back in 2011. An 18-year old died after she lost control of her car while another car was merging onto J.R. Allen from that access ramp that will now be closed.
We understand that this is just a temporary fix.
