Elderly man beaten and car-jacked in Phenix City | News
PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM)- An elderly man in Phenix City was beaten and car-jacked and now his family and the police need your help finding the suspect.
"I just want God to get his heart and change it," said the 86-year-old man, who didn't feel up to an interview. He was the victim of a car-jacking in Phenix City Tuesday morning.
His granddaughter, Kelli Tomlin explained, "My grandfather had been to the grocery store. He returned home and proceeded to pull into the driveway to get his groceries out of the vehicle when he was hit in the back of the head. The guy then choked him and proceeded to hit him in the head with his foot."
The suspect got away with the man's wallet, keys, pistol, and his car, a 1996 Mercury Marquise. The victim was treated and released from the hospital. Tomlin said, "There are no brain injuries, it is just a lot of swelling in the face that he will have to recover from around the eye area."
The elderly man was able to give a brief description of the suspect, a tall black man who wasn't wearing a shirt.
"Anybody who has any information about what happened or saw anything, please come forward and contact the Phenix City Police Department," Kelli Tomlin pleaded.
While the family waits for a suspect to be identified, "We are shocked. We can't believe this has happened. Something like this that is done to the elderly, it has just shocked us all."
This victim says he will continue to pray for his attacker, "It is hard for me to do, but I am a child of God, and I am going to pray for him, the man who did this to me."
