The Directorate of Public Works is conducting a controlled/prescribed burn in the southern portion of post Tuesday April 9.  Winds are favorable from the southeast and smoke is not expected to escape post.

Prescribed burning helps prevent the occurrence of wildfires stemming from military training activities.  Firebreaks around impact areas are maintained annually to contain any wildfires that may be triggered by munitions.

Girl Scouts to send cookies to deployed soldiers

COLUMBUS, GA - Imagine being deployed half way around the world as a member of our armed services. Now imagine the pleasure of receiving a taste of home in a box of Girl Scout Cookies. Imagine wide eyes and hungry smiles.

Deployed service members will enjoy their favorite Girl Scout Cookies this spring as a result of Operation Cookies from Home, a program of Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia. The public is invited to purchase boxes or cases of cookies to be shipped to service members as part of the community service component of the Girl Scout Cookie Program. Cookies may be purchased between February 15 and March 10.

Georgia Military College welcomes new members of honor society

COLUMBUS, GA - The Beta Sigma Sigma Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society, located at GMC Columbus, recently inducted new members.

Membership in Phi Theta Kappa is an exclusive honor, limited only to students with a GPA of at least 3.5. The society exists, “to encourage scholarship, facilitate service opportunities, and provide an intellectual community for its members,” said PTK Faculty Advisor and Humanities Department Chair Erica Stone.

FORT BENNING, GA - MWR is hosting a flea market on York Field from 8 am to 2 pm on May 5.

The event is open to the public.York Field is located on Eckel Avenue on Main Post in front of Building 4. Directions are available online at benningMWR.com.
