Phenix City awarded grant from Gov. Bentley

PHENIX CITY, AL - Gov. Robert Bentley has awarded $700,000 to improve living conditions and eliminate some safety hazards in Tuskegee and Phenix City. 

Bentley awarded a $450,000 Community Development Block Grant to Tuskegee to rehabilitate a dilapidated neighborhood and a $250,000 CDBG award to help Phenix City improve 13 streets.

Walk to End Alzheimer's this Saturday October 29

COLUMBUS, GA - The Columbus Walk To End Alzheimer’s is Saturday, Oct 29 in Uptown Columbus.  Over 500 walkers are pre-registered for the Walk.  Opening Ceremonies will begin in the 1100 block of Broadway at 10 am, check in begins at 9 am. Participants will walk along Broadway south to 6th and back along the Riverwalk.  The Walk will conclude at about 11:15 with a beautiful Promise Garden of flowers “planted” in the 1100 block median to honor each walkers experience with this dreadful disease.

Volunteers working to collect 15,400 gifts for needy kids this Christmas

PHENIX CITY, AL - While many Phenix City families are busy with holiday activities, a group of local volunteers is focused on filling empty shoe boxes with school supplies, toys, hygiene items and notes of encouragement for needy kids overseas. Phenix City families are participating in the world’s largest Christmas project of its kind—Operation Christmas Child—an effort that has hand-delivered 86 million gifts to kids worldwide since 1993.

COLUMBUS, GA - On a single Saturday across Georgia, hundreds of Wells Fargo team members will help their communities at 33 events in the company’s first-ever Community Service Super Saturday.   In Columbus and 26 other cities on Oct. 22, Wells Fargo Volunteers in their distinctive red T-shirts will be rolling up their sleeves for non-profits – and making donations totaling $110,000 as well.

PHENIX CITY, AL (WTVM) - Phenix City Schools Superintendent Dr. Larry DiChiara has been named Alabama Superintendent of the Year for 2011-2012.

DiChiara says he received the award Tuesday morning while attending the Alabama Schools Superintendents Fall Conference in Florence, Alabama.
